goodbye paul… hello leadership 2006!

im still in a state of shock that harper will be canada’s next prime minister. just the thought of that man having "rt. hon" in front of his name for the rest of his life makes me shudder... on that note the best of luck to the new pm.

as for prime minister martin … all i can say is that he could have been a great prime minister instead of a good prime minister… if he had fired his useless staff. i am truly saddened to see the prime minister step down and wish him all the best.

now back to the big political story…. LEADERSHIP!

here are the likely suspects for this race and what i think:

john manley – i expect he will be one of the first to declare or not declare. if manley does enter the race he will put forth a strong campaign… I don’t think the left of the party will buy his message… too much baggage from the chrétien years… i.e. monarchy remarks, ideas on u.s. canada relations and his speculated connections to the sponsorship scandal.

martin cauchon – he’s french so that will give him a huge boost … however, im not so sure that will be enough for this contender. here is why… 1) he was part of the chrétien years which leaves the stench of scandal on him. 2) im not so sure that he will be able to bank on the delegation from anywhere but quebec. 3) he is not a sitting member of parliament. combine these three variables and i think he is out. don’t get me wrong … he will run but im positive he will loose.

michael ignatieff – if he is smart he will stay out of this race. ignatieff is new to the party and hasn’t earned anything. his nomination was a shame and as a liberal in etobicoke-lakeshore it would be hard not to loose. i say if ignatieff has any real consideration for the party he will step up and play a role in rebuilding the party.

belinda stronach – no chance… she is an inexperienced and unproven parliamentarian and cabinet minister, doesn’t speak french well, and has not earned her ranks in the liberal party yet. like ignatieff she will need to play a role in rebuilding, rather then being ambitious.

frank mckenna – im about 99.9% sure he will run... especially after his resignation today. mckenna is obviously qualified and is a proven public official. mckenna will be a front runner in this race. however, mckenna has some setbacks. 1) premiers have dismal historic records as leaders and 2) is from new brunswick.

brian tobin – may run … i don’t think he has much of a chance. tobin is a former chretien minister (cough cough… the scandal tag). tobin also has baggage from his premiership in newfoundland and like mckenna will have a hard time overcoming the premier to leader record.

david emerson – probably a front runner if he decides to enter. emerson was an effective minister in the martin government and is a fresh face to politics, with some good ideas… this may give him an edge to emerge as a frontrunner. setbacks … not from quebec or ontario.

bob ray – may be exactly what the party needs … a new face with a vision. has a few obstacles 1) his premiership in ontario 2) not a bread in the bone liberal 3) not a member of parliament.

joe volpe – keep dreaming buddy!

consensus candidates:

carolyn bennett
john godfrey
stephane dion

other possible leadership candidates:

scott brison
allan rock

"The Conservatives ONLY won by 21 seats"

Surely all the Liberal Party needs is a new bright and shiny leader after they've "been punished" by the electorate.

"The Punishment" hasn't started yet. See "The Accountability Act", also known as the excruciating castration of the entire Liberal patronage structure.

On the "bright and shiny new leader" point:

The Conservative(Harper/Manning Libertarianism) victory was built piece by piece over the past 20 years. Politics in Canada has changed FOR GOOD.

If the Liberal's think that all they need is a new leader, than they might as well re-hire Scott Reid to run the next campaign.

Shudder, not shutter.
Godfrey, not Godfry.
That's just two.

No wonder Harper got in with illiterates trying to stop him.

Lots of chatter about Gerard Kennedy in the last few days. He could be an interesting candidate if he runs.

Obviously the person behind this website is out of date since Gerard Kennedy's name is not listed.

Remember the last Liberal leadership race, or non race... as it eventually became after the absolute jackboot, steam roller, with us or else, rule fixing, membership form controlling, meeting date rigging, executive overthrowing, (insert your favourite tactic) ... "Martinites" engineered a virtual coronation.

Well my fellow Liberals..just insert the name McKenna wherever Martin appears in your individual memory... same "Board", same style, the deal was done when McKenna agreed not to run last time.

It has started the Martinite/McKenna forces push for as short a campaign as possible to prevent any fresh faces from having a chance.

I have a funny feeling the campaign will be busted wide open once McKenna's pro-life stand and Carlyle Group association comes out.

I think the Liberals need a completely fresh face for leader.
Why not Belinda Stronach? The Liberals immediately recognized her potential with a cabinet post. And she sure couldn't be associated with Chretien and Adscan. Plus she is from the GTA!

It is just the begining of a Harper dynasty.Belinda would be a great choice for the leader of the Liberals,a trader with lots of money no brains and nothing to lose.

You forgot Belinda on your list . . . I think she has the cash to make a run for it . . . after all the party is broke ain't it!

Imagine going from Blonde Bimbo . . . to Caucus Buddy . . . . To Lib Leader . . . . sooooooo Right

With McKenna leaving the fate of the Liberal Party has been sealed to the opposition benchs for a good deal of time. The Conervative Party took 20 years to build to the point its at right now and the fact is that Harper, who is not one for hasty action, in all probability will NOT have a major screw up and next compaign when Canadians see that all of the Liberal LIEs were just that, the peopel will be very ept to give Harper a full Mandate and I believe that more after that. Harper is a smart man who, unlike Martin, thiks with head not his....anyways the moral of the story is that leadership candidates who do not see themselves living in the opposition bench as McKenna put it "at elast 10 years" willbe droppign like flies and the "bright stars" will all fade away. Add on top of that 38 million pre-election debt (dont believe me check elections canada youself. I did!) and the accountability act which was marvelously put, will destroy the fundriasing abilities for the Liberals AND the NDP. The Conservatives built up a great fundraising machine that targets teh grassroots people, not the companies so in the same mind as my previous bretheren may I say :Long Live the RIGHT HONORABLE Prime Minister Stephan Harper, the Savior of REAL Canadian values!!!!!

I am sure you have heard the song "Karma Chameleon" by Culture Club but have you ever given much thought to its meaning? While on Earth, you are living in a world of reincarnation which is governed by the law of karma. Karma begins to propel you as Soul on a personal journey through the universe. Karma ends when you have reached enlightenment and fully realise that this physical reality and the Universe itself is just an illusion. When you reach a state of knowingness that there is but One all pervading essence and that essence or consciousness is You!
So what is Karma and how does it work? While in the illusion you have a soul. This soul lives past, present, and future lives. To grow in love, joy, and awareness, you reincarnate into a series of physical bodies to experience different existences. This road leads to the experiences of being both sexes, all races, religions, and ethnic types throughout many lifetimes.
Karma in its simplicist terms can be described by the biblical statement "as you sow, so also shall you reap". Karma is the principle of cause and effect, action and reaction, total cosmic justice and personal responsibility. It brings 'good' experiences as well as 'bad' - a debt must be repaid and a blessing rewarded.
A more indepth esoteric look at karma gives us the following distinctions: Sanchita Karma: the accumulated result of all your actions from all your past lifetimes. This is your total cosmic debt. Every moment of every day either you are adding to it or you are reducing this cosmic debt. Prarabdha Karma: the portion of your "sanchita" karma being worked on in the present life. If you work down your agreed upon debt in this lifetime, then more past debts surface to be worked on. Agami Karma: the portion of actions in the present life that add to your "sanchita" karma. If you fail to work off your debt, then more debts are added to "sanchita" karma and are sent to future lives. Kriyamana Karma: daily, instant karma created in this life that is worked off immediately. These are debts that are created and worked off - ie. you do wrong, you get caught and you spend time in jail.
As a soul, you experience a constant cycle of births and deaths with a series of bodies for the purpose of experiencing this illusionary world gaining spiritual insights into your own true nature until the totality of all experiences show you Who you really are - the I AM! Until you have learned, you will find that pretending that the rules of karma do not exist or trying to escape the consequences of your actions is futile.
Although it may often "feel" like punishment, the purpose of karma is to teach not to punish. Often the way we learn is to endure the same type of suffering that we have inflicted on others and also rexperience circumstances until we learn to change our thinking and attitudes.
We are all here to learn lessons as spiritual beings in human form. These lessons are designed to help us grow into greater levels of love, joy, and awareness. They teach us our true nature of love. Where we do not choose love, show forgiveness, teach tolerance, or display compassion, karma intervenes to put us back on the path of these lessons. Quite simply, the only way to achieve a state of karmic balance is to be love.
Before you incarnated into your present personality, you agreed to put yourself in the path of all that is you need to learn. Once you got here, you agreed to forget this. Karma is impersonal and has the same effect for everyone. It is completely fair in its workings and it is predictable - "do onto others as you would have them do unto you" is a way to ensure peace and tranquillity in your own life as well as the lives of those you come into contact with. The law of karma is predictable - "as you sow, so shall you reap" what is done to you is the net result of what you have done to others!
Karma gives you the opportunity at every moment to become a better person than you are and to open up to the realization that you are the master of your own fate.
The goal of karma is to give you all the experiences that you need to evolve into greater levels of love, joy, awareness, and responsibility. Karma teaches that you are totally responsible for the circumstances of your life. They keep you on the straight and narrow until you have mastered your vehicle and can ride freely on your own. Once you understand that you are the master of your own circumstances and that everything you experience is a direct result of your past actions due to your thinking and emotional responses you can overcome its seeming negative effects by creating only 'good' karma.
Karma forces us to look beyond ourselves (oneness) so that we can see ourselves as we truly are Whole, Complete, at One with everything. Once we truly understand ourselves, we can see our divinity and our unity with all life.
Karma drives us to service. Love means service. Once you accept total responsibility for your life, you see yourself as a soul in service to God. Once you do, you become a fully realized being, allowing God to experience the illusion through you.
Belief in karma and an understanding of its workings will lead you to a life of bliss. Only your own deeds can hinder you. Until the time comes when we release ourselves from our own self-imposed shackles of limitation and fully understand who and what we are we will live under the mantle of karma. So until that day why not create some wonderful experiences for ourselves by "doing onto others, as we would have them do unto us". self-hypnosis
