Murphy declares for Brison

Last Updated: Wednesday, September 6, 2006 | 7:47 AM AT

Charlottetown MP Shawn Murphy says he's supporting Scott Brison's campaign for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada, adding it's time for a Prime Minister from Atlantic Canada.

Murphy said he's always been impressed with Brison as an MP and as a minister, and that Brison's policies are aligned with his own. Brison served as public works minister from 2004 to 2006.

Murphy notes the last Atlantic Canadian prime minister was Sir Robert Borden, a Conservative who held the job from 1917 to 1920. He says people should consider that perhaps it is the region's turn.

The leadership convention will be held in December in Montreal.

I for one am sick of hearing "the new PM should be from......". Does it matter where he comes from as long as he has what it takes.

This picking a region for a PM is stupid.

I think Borden was PM a little longer than that boyo. You don't get your mug on money without at least one of the following:
-sending Canadian boys to die in a war;
-provide a fledgling company with land and rights to cross country in some fangled dressed-up unity thingy
-be a darling of the longest ruling party in the free world.

Liberals: 83 Years Ruled
Conservatives: 56 Years Ruled

Give or take some months. (Source: Wikipedia)

Anyway, good to see Scott get some support. I doubt he'll win but hopefully he'll get enough support to be a kingmaker and make anyone but Rae, Iggy, or Dryden Leader (and eventual PM)

The good thing about brison is that if you are one of his buddies you get all sorts of tips that will make you millions in the stock market, ie the income trust tax rule change.
Sweeeeeeet!
